The Journey From Last Diwali To This One!

Firstly let me thank all of you for sending me such lovely and warm Diwali greetings and apologies for not being able to respond to each one of them individually. India is the only nation where Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Baisaskhi, Parsi New Year and so many other festivals are all celebrated and loved. We do end up getting a lot of holidays and eating a lot of different types of mithai too thanks to it all. This is the beauty of our nation and may it continue for thousands of years to come. We are all one nice big family of a billion people.

I remember last year the mood in Diwali was very different for most people – especially those involved with the stock market. People were worried, tense and many even frustrated. Stock markets were down and everywhere the media there were talks of gloom and doom. That is why the post written last year was very different from what I am about to write now. Time is very powerful.

Last year, I wanted fellow Happionaires to smile in spite of portfolios’ being down, because I was confident of India’s growth in the long run. By the blessing of Goddess Saraswati and Laxmi, we have been proven right once again by believing in India. (Read Last Year’s Diwali Post Here)

Now, this year, on the other hand I have noticed a lot of people being extremely elated – simply because the past year has been extremely good in terms of returns. In our office itself, a junior researcher was telling me how happy he is because he invested his personal funds in Jindal Steel and Power last year and now is sitting on almost 700% returns.

Such type of returns are almost unimaginable for anyone logical, but as they say stock markets behave illogically and irrationally. He sounded overjoyed and enthusiastic, but I also sensed that he was becoming irrational. He had followed our advice on Cashing the Crash – but he wasn’t following our advice on staying balanced and looking at value. He wanted to take a loan against his ancestral property and invest with us. Taking a loan to invest is a very bad idea.

Every time markets rally and investors make money, it leads to a rush of newbie’s wanting to make a quick buck overnight. Unfortunately they end up losing money in overvalue and overhyped IPOs or by following tipsters (scamsters), not realizing how the game of manipulation work. Many of them end up losing much more that they can afford.

We should always know that we are not invincible and the markets always have a way of surprising us. Tomorrow if stock markets correct, would his joy also disappear? Happiness which depends only on returns made is short lived and never fulfilling.

I am glad people are happy and investors have made money. I love making money and finding multi-baggers. Goddess Laxmi’s blessing are always welcome, but if the sole motive of life becomes money than it will be incomplete. In Hindu philosophy, we are taught to respect everything in nature and maintain balance. This balance and mix of all elements is what makes life complete.

Gold will continue its rally upward with minor pauses. I hope our friends here, invested in it when I shared our positions in gold much earlier.

The coming year is going to be once again an excellent time to create wealth and at the same time will cause large amounts of wealth to be lost – especially in the West. I once again am sticking out my head and saying that America and the West will face extremely difficult times in terms of economic growth. When the reality is revealed, people will forget whatever crash they have seen till now.

In the midst of this chaos, we shall get pockets of beautiful investment opportunities that will once again reward value investors several times over. One year down the line; inshallah I will be speaking about them again.

Wish all of you a very Happy Diwali and may you always be blessed with Saraswati and Laxmi. Oh and once again try not to pollute the environment and simply light diyas of light and love.

Keep smiling and stay happy!

Wishing all Happionaire family members a happy Diwali. I want to personally thank Chabria ji for always helping us not with tips, but with knowledge. Last year it was very soothing to read his Diwali post and this year it brings sanity.

It is amazing the type of returns made. Really.
